Fair Work Ombudsman to Focus on Structural Metal Products Manufacturing Industry

Fair Work Ombudsman to Focus on Structural Metal Products Manufacturing Industry

The Fair Work Ombudsman (“FWO”) has announced that it will be focusing a new national education and compliance campaign on the Structural Metal Products Manufacturing industry.

The campaign is likely to affect companies that manufacture metal products used as inputs in the construction of buildings and other structures such as doors, gates, window frames, staircases, trusses, scaffolding, sheds and gutters.

The education aspect of the campaign will focus on promoting the information which the FWO has available via its website as to the Manufacturing and Associated Industries and Occupations Award 2010 ("Award").

The compliance aspect (being the aspect most likely to be of interest to employers) will entail the FWO contacting a sample of approximately 250 employers in the industry throughout Australia, requesting that they supply employment records for audit.

Employers in the industry should ensure that they are familiar with the Award, are paying their workers the correct minimum rates of pay, penalty rates, loadings and allowances and that they are complying with their record-keeping and pay slip obligations.

If you require assistance or advice regarding whether your business meets all of its regulatory and Award obligations, please contact our Workplace Relations team who will happily assist you.
